Team North America Hockey Gear: What are the Young Guns Wearing?

Say what you will about the World Cup of Hockey, but you have to admit that watching Team North America is incredible. The best 23 & under players from US and Canada playing for the same team is just plain ridiculous. These guys are the future of the NHL with their speed and talent, ushering in a new style of hockey. So we decided to breakdown what these guys are wearing for their gloves, skates, sticks, and helmets.

Granted, more than a few of these future all-stars are a part of a brand’s team so that will skew the numbers a bit. It’s still interesting to see if you’re using the same setup as some of these pros.

A quick note on the equipment – gloves and helmets aren’t going to be 100% correct. There were a decent amount of players using pro-stock gloves, so I chose the closest existing line. As for helmets, we only broke it down as far as the helmet lines. So when it says Bauer RE-AKT, the helmet can be the RE-AKT 100, RE-AKT 75 or the original RE-AKT. The same goes for the CCM Resistance; it can be any helmet from the CCM Resistance helmet lineup, from top of the line to the cheapest.

Connor McDavid

No surprises here. He’s the new poster-child for CCM and the equipment he’s chosen lines up perfectly with his style of play. Side note: his pro-stock gloves are most similar to the QLT family.

  • Skates: CCM JetSpeed Skates
  • Stick: CCM Super Tacks
  • Gloves: CCM QuickLite Gloves
  • Helmet: CCM Resistance
Johnny Gaudreau

Here’s a little bit of a surprise. Johnny Hockey used to be rocking the full Bauer setup, but here we see a little Warrior introduced into the mix.

  • Gloves: Warrior Covert QRL
  • Helmet: Bauer RE-AKT

  • Helmet: Bauer RE-AKT
Auston Mathews

Bauer’s latest addition to the family is the #1 overall from 2016, Auston Matthews. Expect a lot of hype about this Arizonan.

  • Gloves: Bauer Nexus 1N

The fastest skater in the league, according to the 2016 NHL fastest skater competition at the All-Star game, is flying on the explosive Bauer Supreme 1S skates.

  • Skates: Bauer Supreme 1S

  • Gloves: Bauer Supreme MX3

Saad’s a Warrior man, wearing as much of their equipment as he can. To be honest, I forgot that Saad was still young enough to play on Team North America.

  • Skates: Bauer Supreme 1S
  • Stick: Warrior Dynasty HD1
  • Gloves: Warrior Dynasty AX1

Speaking of people who I thought were too old. Couturier is a mixed bag in terms of his equipment.

  • Skates: Bauer Vapor 1X
  • Stick: Easton Stealth CX
  • Gloves:Warrior Covert QRL
  • Helmet: CCM Resistance
Jonathan Drouin

I apologize for this picture of Drouin. To be fair, it would have looked even stranger if we didn’t blur out Gibson. It looked like they were having such a nice moment.

  • Skates: CCM JetSpeed
  • Stick: CCM Super Tacks
  • Gloves: CCM QuickLite
  • Helmet: CCM FitLite
J.T. Miller

STX! STX! One of two STX players on Team North America and he’s rocking the new STX Surgeon RX2. The RX2 is the stick that features all-new shaft dimension designed to best fit the shape of the hand and provide more surface area for control.

  • Skates: CCM Super Tacks
  • Stick: CCM Super Tacks
  • Gloves: CCM Crazy Light

Ryan Murray

When researching, I found that Ryan Murray is extremely photogenic. Also, he’s a bit of an outlier in terms of the gear he uses. He has the popular custom VH skates, but still using the Easton Stealth CX with Easton gloves.

  • Skates: VH Custom
  • Stick: Easton Stealth CX
  • Gloves: Easton Pro 10
  • Helmet: CCM Resistance

The huge 6’6″ Parayko is a fan of Warrior. He’s been using a sweet LE Covert stick with the classic Dolomite graphics which happen to feature the same North America orange.
