Starter Packages Are Now Available at IW!

For any sport, figuring out what gear you need can be the hardest part and can be overwhelming, especially for those new to hockey. Well look no further because you have come to the right place for breaking down what any player needs to get started, whether you’re 5 or 50.

Picking gear has never been easier with our new Starter Packages. Getting started is as easy as finding what group you fit into. We’ve broken it down into Senior, Junior and Youth sections, each with their own age, sizing and weight guidelines. Just look below at our recommendations to find where you or your kids fit; of course not everyone fits into the cookie-cutter sections so feel free to explore and see what will fit you best.

When you finally figure out where you fit in the best, just click on that player and it will take you to a new page. On the next page you’ll see a variety of different gear choices for each piece. Every single piece of gear that we list is what is required by most leagues for the minimum amount of gear. We do recommend checking out your league requirements so that way you can get a better idea of what you really need. We hand picked entry level to intermediate level gear so that you will be able to get a fair balance between price and performance to make it cost-effective for the first time playing. Another cool feature we’ve added are the “Fit Help” icons above each piece of gear which will provide you with a summary of that piece of gear and how to fit for it . However you will need to click on the products themselves as sizing guidelines vary by brand and are not universal.

The two most difficult things to pick are by far the skates and sticks because there are so many things that factor into which one you should pick. For example, there are three types of skate fits, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. They include skates for narrow, average and wider feet. When picking a skate, we always recommend getting the one that fits you best rather than getting the one with the best performance. Even if you are wearing the best skate, you won’t be able to reap the benefits it offers if it doesn’t fit right, so fit is key. We picked our skates based on the popular fits for both inline and ice players, which tended to be the normal, average fit. If you tend to have a more narrow or wide foot, we offer other skates that will fit to your shape. Now when it comes to sticks, getting the right height and flex is also crucial when you want to get a stick. We based our different sizing sections around sticks because we want to make sure you get the right height. The general consensus for figuring out the right flex is dividing your weight by two and adding 5. The higher the flex, the more stiff the stick will be and the lower the flex, the more you can bend the stick. Flex can also be based on personal preference, as some players like the “whip” of a lower flex even though they could easily use a higher flex.

Lastly, we offer all the extra essentials for the finishing touch like jerseys, mouthguards, hockey bags, tape, jerseys, and jocks so you’ll be fully prepared when you step onto the ice or court for your first time. Here at IW, we want to make your life as easy as possible when it comes to ordering new gear as that is the most stressful part for new players, so please take a look at our new Starter Packages link on the left hand side of both the Inline and Ice Warehouse pages, you won’t be disappointed. And for all you beer league players out there, stay tuned for a package made just for you!
