The NHL's Three Stars of the week ending Feb 02, 2020, are Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers, Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning, and J.T Miller of the Vancouver Canucks.
Draisaitl was named last week's NHL First Star by his solid performance over three games, two of which included the Battle of Alberta. He was a factor in every game, scoring multiple points in each appearance, starting off the week with 2 assists in the Oilers shootout loss to the Calgary Flames. He then posted 2 goals against the St. Louis Blues, one of them being the game-winner. In his third game, the second half of the Battle of Alberta, Draisaitl had a monster night with 4 assists to help the Oilers take revenge in an 8-3 victory. He finished the week with 8 points and took the NHL lead with a total of 83 points (29 goals, 54 assists) in 52 GP. Draisaitl is on an 11-game point streak and the fastest Oilers player to reach 80 points in a season since Mark Messier in 1989-90, who reached 80 points in 50 GP.
While Stamkos matched Draisaitl's 8 point week, he did so through 4 games, which makes him the NHL's Second Star of the week. He reached the 20 goal mark in his game against the Dallas Stars, where he scored both of the Lightning's goals in their 3-2 OT loss. He tallied 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist) versus the Los Angeles Kings, 1 assist against the Anaheim Ducks, and finished the week with 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist) against the San Jose Sharks in a 3-0 victory. He currently sits at 15th in goals, 20th for assists, and tied for 13th (with Mark Scheifele) in the scoring race at 56 points, trailing teammate Kucherov who sits at 61. Stamkos is looking to extend his 7-game point streak (6 goals, 6 assists) against the Vegas Golden Knights on Feb 4.
Miller ended the week with 7 points (3 goals, 4 assists) through 4 games and was named the Third Star of the week. In his first game against the Blues, he tallied 2 goals including the game-winner in a 3-1 victory and then dished 2 assists in their 5-2 win against the San Jose Sharks. Miller also reached the 20-goal mark in his game against the New York Islanders, where he scored 1 goal, 1 assist in the 4-3 overtime victory. He capped off the week with one assist in a 4-3 shootout loss against the Carolina Hurricanes. Miller is looking to blow by his career highs, which he set in the 2017-18 campaign, of 23 goals, 35 assists, 58 points. He currently sits at 20 goals, 33 assists, 53 points.
