Hockey Brands’ Dream Teams

With the all-star game still fresh on our minds, we sat down and thought about different ways to group the creme de la creme. As the world’s greatest hockey retailer (c’mon, you know it’s true), we have brands constantly on our minds. So… we decided to make a dream team based off of the brands’ athletes; but we wanted to do more with it, so to be more accurate we created a brand fantasy line (C, RW, LW, D, D, G), and will make them a fantasy hockey league of sorts for the remainder of the season. We’ll be using Yahoo fantasy hockey as a basis for stat collecting and player positions.

We recently launched a section on our website that highlights NHL players and the gear they use. Check it out here.

Honestly, it was really hard trying to put these lines together as we had to pass up a lot of superstars. Just a note: we didn’t choose players based on the potential chemistry or how feasible the team could play together. So here are the rosters:

Center – Jonathan Toews

Left Wing – Alex Ovechkin

Right Wing – Steven Stamkos

Defense – Victor Hedman *replacing the injured Kevin Shattenkirk*

Defense – Aaron Ekblad

Goalie – Devan Dubnyk *Line change on 2/3 because of injury to Henrik Lundqvist*

Wow. That Bauer line is just a powerhouse. This was one of the hardest brands to narrow down. I mean, how do you pass up Patrick Kane, Ryan Getzlaf, and a ridiculously long list of talent…

Center – Sidney Crosby

Left Wing – Pavel Datsyuk

Right Wing – Vladimir Tarasenko

Defense – Brent Burns

Defense – Dion Phaneuf* Replaced by Niklas Kronwall due to injury

Goalie – Carey Price

Ok, so we’re counting CCM/Reebok as one. Yet another powerhouse (company) team that may give Bauer a run for its money.

Center – Ryan Kesler

Left Wing – Zach Parise

Right Wing – Corey Perry

Defense – Drew Doughty

Defense – P.K. Subban

Goalie – Antti Raanta

This team gets a huge asterisk next to it for a couple reasons. The biggest of which is the goalie situation: Easton doesn’t make goalie gear… So we gave them a Brian’s goaltender, Antti Raanta, who is a solid backup goaltender. There are also a few other reasons…

Center – Paul Stastny

Left Wing – Bobby Ryan

Right Wing – Thomas Plekanec

Defense – Jacob Trouba

Defense – Stephane Robidas

Goalie – Craig Anderson

Sher-Wood has a solid team of Canadian players with a slight positional asterisk in there.

Center – Nicklas Backstrom

Left Wing – Henrik Zetterberg

Right Wing – Joe Pavelski

Defense – Erik Karlsson

Defense – Dustin Byfuglien

Goalie – Jonathan Quick

Warrior‘s squad also looks pretty deadly with a fair amount of Swedes.

We’ll begin recording the stats starting Thursday, January 29th and let it run for the rest of the season. Click here for updated stats and scoring categories. If any injuries arise, we’ll make changes accordingly.
